Westridge Construction is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role is responsible for accounting and financial oversight for the company including joint venture, real estate, and major projects, approval management for key financial transactions, and leading accounting initiatives and process improvements across the company. This position plays an important role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting project teams, and ensuring timely, accurate financial information for both internal and external stakeholders.
The Senior Accountant works closely with internal teams, joint venture partners, subcontractors, vendors, and auditors, and is expected to bring a high level of attention to detail, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to their work.
Key Responsibilities:
Project & Joint Venture Accounting
- Manage all accounting activities related to joint venture, real estate and major projects
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and project reporting for internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with Canadian GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
- Manage cash flow forecasting and reporting for JV partners, including recommendations based on financial analysis
- Oversee job costing, expense tracking, and cost trend analysis
- Prepare monthly JV partner billings
- Maintain company-wide revenue tracking and forecasting
- Coordinate with external auditors
- Serve as a key point of contact for financial inquiries from internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and JV partners
Approval Management & Financial Controls
- Develop, maintain, and administer approval workflows for invoices, expense reports, cash receipts, and progress billings
- Review and approve financial transactions in accordance with internal policies and authorization limits
- Implement and maintain internal controls to mitigate financial risk and safeguard company assets
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
Accounting Projects & Process Improvement
- Lead accounting initiatives, system implementations, and process improvement projects
- Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets to ensure initiatives are delivered as intended
- Collaborate with internal teams, including IT and operations, to support successful implementation
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- CPA designation or working toward CPA preferred
- Minimum of five years of accounting experience, ideally within the construction industry
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external partners
- Experience with job costing, project accounting, and financial analysis
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Sage 300 CRE is an asset
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail, accountability, and professional integrity
