This $14.9 million contract included the construction of a new electrical energy centre (EEC) building and its associated site development. The EEC building has a concrete basement, suspended concrete main floor and second floor, structural steel framing with block infill wrapped in a very attractive brick façade, which fits in perfectly with the adjacent buildings in busy downtown Regina. The building comprises of three levels, each approximately 3,700 sq ft to house 3 – 2.25 MW generating units (gensets) along with associated mechanical and electrical work. Also included was the installation of a precast concrete retention tank, the decommissioning of 3 existing generation units, and the removal of 2 underground fuel tanks. This project was key to SaskTel’s business to ensure telephone services were maintained during power outages.
